Zagreb - The Amazon of Europe Bike Trail, Interreg DTP project connecting 15 project partners and 11 associated partners, developed a model for sustainable mobility and a unique tourism product in the future 5-country UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube.

With 1.250 km of cycling trails following both sides of the rivers in 27 stages through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia, the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail represents an advanced flagship sustainable product.

“Although we had to change our plans and postpone the opening of the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail, we continued developing our sustainable cycling product in cooperation with tourism organisations, service providers, municipalities, regions and protected areas to boost a balanced local development. All cyclists that are visiting this stunning riverine area can find our resting stops, signposts and other trail equipment and those that are planning to visit can in meantime read our cycling guide, which will for sure, inspire them to book the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail cycling holiday as soon as we establish our Booking Center. This summer we are starting the testing season, so we are sure that cyclists can have a safe and amazing experience”, said Urška Dolinar, Amazon of Europe Bike Trail Project Manager.

Amazon of Europe Bike Trails offers full service for cyclists within its Service & Booking Center, and puts nature in its focus through a valorisation programme “Cycle for nature”. Programme ensures direct reinvestment of a certain percentage of the income into nature protection projects in the region.

“Area of future 5-country UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube spans across 1 million hectares of extraordinary natural and cultural landscapes and is the hotspot of biodiversity and rare natural habitats – floodplain forests, gravel and sand bars, and oxbows. To preserve it, we developed a ‘Cycle for nature’ programme which helps funding nature protection projects in the region and all cyclists who choose Amazon of Europe Bike Trail will get the chance to directly contribute to the protection of this unique region”, said Ivana Korn Varga from WWF Adria.

You can discover the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail on our product website, where you can find comprehensive information about the route and the adventures and discoveries of both, South and North route.
