NGOs to the governments in Adria region: Don’t make any decisions without transparency and participation!
The letter sent by WWF and other local NGOs recommends steps that will accelerate our path towards green economy. Organizations plea that decisions, other than those related to health and safety, are halted.
In the letter addressed to presidents and/or prime ministers, NGOs bring forth several recommendations that could accelerate the shift towards an economy which is climate neutral, and which protects and restores our natural world, health and wellbeing. Organizations call the governments to:
- Uphold and strengthen the implementation and funding of existing environmental standards and policies to address the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution.
- Make a major investment in awareness raising and education about human rights, sustainable development and nature conservation, strengthening our society to face future challenges.
- Make distribution of stimulus funds and bail-outs conditional on consistency with the European Green Deal and the Paris Accord, in order to drive the transformation of our economy towards sustainability.
- Launch large scale sustainable initiatives in line with public interest.
- Provide support to (local) civil society organizations.
