Dunja Mazzocco Drvar is the new Director of the Nature Conservation Program at WWF Adria
Dunja will lead expert efforts to address key environmental challenges, promote sustainable practices, and advocate for policies that protect the region's most vulnerable species and ecosystems.
Dunja Mazzocco Drvar holds MSc Degree in meteorology and oceanography from the Department of Geophysics at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Zagreb, Croatia. Throughout her career at the State Meteorological Institute, later as a meteorologist on television, and in the non-governmental sector and the Government, Dunja has demonstrated a lasting and strong commitment to combating climate change. She comes to WWF Adria from the position of the Director General of the Climate Activities Department at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. She is a member of the Croatian Meteorological Society and the Journalists' Association and is involved in running, volunteer work, and children's education in her spare time.
Upon her appointment, Dunja Mazzocco Drvar stated, "I am honored to join WWF Adria as the Director of the Nature Conservation Program. Faced with increasingly extreme climate change and threats to our planet's biodiversity, it is imperative that we work together to ensure a sustainable future for all living beings and a greener, cleaner world for our young generations and children. I am excited to collaborate with the talented WWF team and our partners in the region to initiate new solutions and further inspire our public to act in defense of nature."
Nataša Kalauz, the Executive Director of WWF Adria, stated on this occasion, "By choosing Dunja Mazzocco Drvar, WWF Adria has confirmed its position as the strongest nature conservation organization in the region. Her experience, passion, and dedication align with our mission of a world where people and nature live in harmony and thrive together. She will further strengthen the ranks of our top-notch experts and enhance our programs on a regional and broader European scale. Her rich experience and enthusiasm will advance WWF's mission of nature conservation and reducing biodiversity threats, and we extend a sincere welcome to her."
WWF is one of the largest and most respected independent nature conservation organizations in the world. In its 62 years of existence, present on all continents and in over a hundred countries, the organization has attracted more than thirty million followers and over six million individual donors. In our region, WWF has been operating for over two decades through partnerships with other non-governmental organizations. WWF Adria itself was officially established in 2015, and the organization's work is focused on improving the sustainable management of freshwater ecosystems, forests, protected areas, and the conservation of seas and, of course, wildlife, all in close collaboration with local communities.
