WWF invites citizens, institutions, companies and municipalities to join Earth Hour 2021

Belgrade - "Speak up for nature" is the motto of this year's Earth Hour campaign, to be held on March 27 from 8,30 to 9,30 pm local time.

In addition to the campaign’s signature activity of turning off decorative lighting on public buildings and switching off the lights in private residences for 60 minutes, this time around, WWF invites the public to join in the big zoom event that will be held during the Earth Hour. The event, an open mass dance party with an original song and choreography, is designed as a loud reminder of the urgency of behavioral change for each and every one of us if we want to mitigate climate change.

“The effects of climate change have been increasingly evident in our country, too. For the second year in a row, together with the rest of humanity, we are commemorating Earth Hour fully online, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. These are clear reminders that climate change is not happening to someone else, somewhere else, in the distant future, but to us, right here and right now”, says Nataša Kalauz, WWF Adria CEO.

Extreme weather events, warmer temperatures, river pollution, increased wildfire risk, the emergence of new infectious diseases - are just some of the changes that have hit us just like everybody else.

Despite the difficult times, Earth Hour 2020 proved to be bigger than ever with 190 countries and territories taking part and over 4.7 billion global social media impressions.

Earth Hour was first held in Sydney in 2007 as a civic initiative to raise awareness about climate change and call for urgent action. Today, it is considered to be the largest voluntary environmental campaign in the world.
